About the Designer
About the Designer
Maku is a conceptual fashion brand founded by director Santanu Das. At Maku the textile takes the front seat, so that garments are exclusively designed from the fiber to the rack using only hand spun and hand woven textile (handloom). The dominance of indigo is historic and deliberate. Maku uses Its status symbol and its negative history in Bengal, the brand’s home state, to create one of a kind garments that explore the dye’s richness and versatility. Deliberately incorporating perceived imperfection in its design detail through the use of reverse buttons, prints, etc, the brand demands to be evaluated in the context of the tsunami of globalization of recent times.
